I was raised on a dairy farm in central Minnesota—where honesty, clarity, and straight talk weren’t values, they were survival skills. A job as a pharmacy technician opened my eyes to the power pharmacists hold in their communities. Thus began my journey from “farmer” to “pharmer” began.

Since then, I’ve lived nearly every corner of the pharmacy ecosystem: retail, health systems, health maintenance organizations, Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) operations, clinical product development, formulary strategy, account management, sales, and procurement. Seeing the industry from the inside out gave me a deep understanding of how pharmacy benefits actually work—and how confusing they appear to everyone else.

Leading PBM sales and account teams reinforced this truth: the industry lacks an accessible, foundational resource for learning. Headlines and whitepapers exist, but nothing breaks the system down simply, clearly, and without jargon.
